Erica Horvatin
Erica Horvatin joined the FOX 10 Weather Experts as an evening meteorologist, and she is excited to forecast the diverse weather across Arizona. Erica’s fascination with weather began at a young age. It started with a fear of tornadoes as a child growing up in the Chicago suburbs, but it blossomed into a dream to become a broadcast meteorologist. Erica believes the most important part of being a meteorologist is to keep people safe and prepared for severe weather and the elements.
She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she took a Field Studies of Convection course… A.K.A. Storm chasing. While on this two-week trip across tornado alley and the Great Plains, she saw her first tornado in Kansas, was caught in a haboob in Oklahoma, and tracked incredible, towering supercells.
Erica’s first meteorologist position was at KNBN NewsCenter1 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She took in the beautiful sights of the Black Hills, and forecasted for High Plains weather – tornadoes, snowstorms and all. From there, Erica moved to South Bend, Indiana. As a weekend meteorologist and weekday weather reporter at ABC57 News, Erica went live on the beaches of Lake Michigan, forecasted lake-effect snow, drove the lengths of Michiana in the mobile weather tracker, and reported the weather for Notre Dame football.
Most recently, Erica worked nearly five years in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a morning meteorologist at KRQE News 13. Here, She learned how to forecast the unique weather of the desert southwest, from the monsoon to mountain snow. She knows that there’s more to the weather in this region than people think. While in Albuquerque, she earned her National Weather Association Seal of Approval.
Erica has a love for the southwest and is thrilled to call Arizona home. She is excited about more adventures across our beautiful state, including snowboarding, hiking, camping, swimming, and off-roading, as well as the awesome city life. She loves to shop and visit restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and wineries, especially if there’s a patio!
